"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Even
though the name has been changed to ???Development,??? maintenance activities
also pertain to this model. Maintenance, not just new development,
requires developing requirements, managing changes, planning and monitoring
activities, ensuring quality, and so on.
Both the staged and continuous representations are now in one document
(hooray!).
More information was added relating to amplifications, generic practices,
examples, and hardware engineering.
Common features were eliminated.
Advanced practices used in the continuous representation were eliminated.
In some cases, base practices and advanced practices were combined into
specific practices. Because of this consolidation, the numbering system for
specific practices follows that of the staged representation, not that of the
continuous representation.
Supplier Sourcing as a separate discipline was eliminated; its concepts now
reside in the Supplier Agreement Management (SAM) process area. Integrated
Supplier Management was also removed, with its concepts incorporated
into SAM.
