"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

We have incorporated lessons learned from our work with various organizations
??”what worked, what didn??™t, and what organizations have told us about the
pros and cons of using the CMMI.
We have updated our measurement chapters. We have developed some new
ideas in measurement that have been well received at various client sites and international
conferences.
We have also had considerable experience in high maturity organizations
worldwide. We have therefore updated our high-maturity chapters based on our
participation with process improvement initiatives and high-maturity SCAMPIs
(appraisals). We have also added more instructions on reading and interpreting
statistical control charts and performance models.
Summary
The CMMI builds on a history of process improvement. The CMMI by its nature
can impact a large part of your organization since it combines concepts and models
from systems engineering, software engineering, hardware engineering, and integrated
teaming.
Two of the problems in CMMI include interpretation and organizational decisions.
