"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Understanding Maturity Level 2: Managed n 61
When comparing the CMMI version 1.1 to the current CMMI version 1.2,
and to the previous CMM for Software, what??™s been left out? The categorization of
generic practices into common features (Commitment to Perform, Ability to Perform,
Directing Implementation, and Verifying Implementation) has been removed.
That is, the term common feature is gone, but the concept remains the same??”we are
just using the term generic practice instead of common feature. There are no longer
explicit, specific project manager reviews or specific senior management reviews.
It is left up to the organization to determine where in the bureaucratic reporting
structure higher-level management resides. The glossary defines higher level management
as someone who does not have authority for day-to-day functions and has
more of a strategic focus. However, we have seen organizations simply define senior
management as the next higher level of management. For example, if you are a
programmer, then your team leader may be the higher-level management that you
report your status to.
