"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

SP 2.3 Design
Interfaces has been combined with Establish Interface Descriptions from the continuous
representation from the previous CMMI.
Technical Solution implies a complex product requiring a complicated approach.
New items included tend to relate to the Systems Engineering and Hardware sides
of the organization. A complex system requires more groups and more people. The
Technical Data Package is used to coordinate these group efforts, as well as to satisfy
procurement interests. The package includes such items as product architecture
description, allocated requirements, process descriptions as they relate to products,
interface requirements, materials requirements, fabrication and manufacturing
requirements, verification requirements, conditions of use, operating and usage
scenarios, and decision rationale. That??™s a lot more than what was recommended by
the CMM for Software. In our experience, some of this information can be found
directly in the Request for Proposal and the Statement of Work from the customer.
Some of it can be found in process documentation within the organization, some
of it can be found in the contract between the suppliers/servicers, some in the
Requirements documentation, and some of it in the Design documentation.
