Because the client had already determined that this
language would be used, as all of their software systems used this language and
converting to something new would require a complete and costly overhaul of all of
their code, the expected outcome was a resounding yes. This process area may promote
a more balanced approach to deriving and evaluating alternatives, although
there are always ways to get around the rules.
In this process area, when the model refers to processes, the model generally
does not mean process improvement??“type processes, but design processes. That is,
the processes they are talking about in this PA focus on the technical steps necessary
to produce the product. They do not focus on processes used to manage the
project or manage the process for Technical Solution or the process used to improve
processes in an organization. They are totally focused on engineering the product.
