"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

The customer is not a peer. If someone wants to know what is
going on during the project, have him attend a status meeting or a technical
review or some other sort of demonstration.

Understanding Maturity Level 3: Defined n 93
A peer review board is not one person. The strength of peer reviews is in getting
several people together who know something about the product or work
product being developed and having them discuss it. Synergy then develops
during the review itself.
Peer reviews are not the place to wax philosophic. Keep them short and sweet
and focused on finding errors in the product, not on how to fix them, or how
you would do it better.
You must ensure that the errors found during a peer review are resolved.
Another peer review may be necessary. Quality Assurance should also check
to see that these problems have been resolved.
There are no generic practices that directly map to this process area.
Verification includes selecting which work products are to be verified; creating
the environment necessary for verification of those products; documenting procedures
and criteria for verification and then following those procedures; conducting
peer reviews; and verifying the product and taking any corrective actions needed.
