"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Are we saying it is a bad practice to create similar environments? No, not at all.
It is very worthwhile to test products in their ultimate environment and to design
products for their ultimate use. We are in favor of this. Just remember that it can
get expensive and complicated. Plan ahead and plan wisely.
Because this PA can also require simulators to be built, one might want to
consider the unique training requirements necessary to build the intended-use
environment.
Things that most organizations tend to forget about this process area:
Most of the issues discussed in Verification apply here. You don??™t need to
test everything. You do need to test almost everything. You cannot test in
quality.
Validation is not performed at the end of the project. It can be performed
throughout the development life cycle, depending on the product being
produced.
Make sure you plan in detail any tests to be performed by the users or in the
user environment.
If you are simulating the user environment, make sure it truly replicates the
actual environment.
