"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

The purpose of the EPG is to define an
integrated process for process improvement and to implement this process seamlessly
throughout the entire organization. By forming separate groups, feedback
and communication are not really there. We recommend that you form one EPG
that has representatives from the various areas and disciplines. How big should it
be? We have found that the optimum number of full-time, fully engaged people on
this type of team should be about ten. Any more and decision making becomes too
lengthy and obfuscated. Too few and there are not enough people to do the work.
Yes, you can have levels of EPGs, just like there could be levels of Software
EPGs when using the Software CMM. Just don??™t get too hierarchical, and too
bureaucratic. This group must do real work in the process improvement area.
For more information, please see Chapter 12, ???People, Roles, and Responsibilities.???
Things that most organizations tend to forget about this process area:
This PA probably has the most ???churn??? in the beginning of any process
improvement effort.
