"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

This approach is
commonly used in DOD endeavors. So, if you are not using this approach, you
don??™t have to. It is optional. If you would like to try this approach, remember that
98 n Interpreting the CMMI
it is formal and structured??”not just getting everyone sitting around a table (when
convenient to their other work tasks and schedules) and philosophizing about how
to develop a system.
SP 1.6 was added to concentrate on work environment standards, which
matches the additional phrase at the end of the Purpose statement. Specific Goal 2
is an optional goal that was added as the inclusion of IPPD to this area. The practices
under Specific Goal 1 include the previous practices from the previous version
of the CMMI for this PA.
So, what are work environment standards? Examples provided include procedures
for work environment safety and security, procedures for how to operate
in the work environment, standards for common tool usage, standardization of
hardware and software for workstations. While this is a new practice, it is something
that most organizations either already have (but may not be documented) or
struggle with.
