"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

You will already have your
hands full just trying to set up a basic process improvement team focusing on
one process area.
Although IPPD is optional, and requires a significant investment in time and
resources and culture change for some organizations, reading the IPPD information
can benefit anyone who must perform on or manage any type of team. It is
about ???people??? issues??”decision making, commitment, prioritizing (and getting
credit for) work assignments, and so forth. Because most of us work on some type
of team nowadays, the guidelines documented here can prove useful.
The generic practice that most closely matches this process area is GP 3.1 Establish
a Defined Process. Other generic practices that can trace guidance back to this
process area include GP 3.2 Collect Improvement Information.
Organizational Process Definition includes generating the Organization??™s Set of
Standard Processes (OSSP); describing various life cycles approved for use; documenting
tailoring criteria and guidelines; and creating and maintaining the measurement
repository and process asset library.
