"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

This
area could prove useful in the vendor selection process. The choice of which alternative
or platform or architecture or language or new technology overlaps somewhat
with Technical Solution. The type of testing mentioned here concerns testing the
possible solution approaches.
Why is this process area needed? The rationale is to provide managers and
analysts with a mechanism to make decisions. This mechanism requires a formal
approach to determine which issues need the formal approach of DAR and
what that mechanism should be. However, if you are having trouble making a
decision, it seems this PA simply gives you more things to consider when making
a decision, which increases the diffi culty of making that decision, so that no decision
ends up being made or the decision may be delayed. It??™s like saying, ???You need
to make a decision about which decision to make. Now, decide how to make the
decision for the decision, and then make the decision.??? Well, if you could make
a decision in the first place, don??™t you think you would have? And does this area
really help you do that? We think not.
