"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

3 Select the Subprocesses That
Will Be Statistically Managed are closely related. For example, you compose the
(project??™s) defined process based on the quantitative understanding you have gained
from process performance baselines and models, and select the subprocesses that
most contribute to process performance. This paragraph gives a very brief approach
on how to understand and implement these two practices. OPP (the previously
discussed process area) focuses on an organizational view of your processes. QPM
focuses on looking at the processes used on a particular project. So, look at your
organization??™s processes (your OSSP discussed in Maturity Level 3) and, using the
quantitative data and the results of your organizational process performance baselines
and models from OPP, determine where your organization needs to improve.
Then look at your project??™s defined process (or processes, also discussed in Maturity
Level 3). Determine which project process can contribute to improving the aforementioned
organizational process.
