"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Yet no real studies are available (at time of print) that can help a small
organization calculate ROI from using this model.
Counterpoint: This point is no longer relevant. When CMMI version 1.1
was released, the ROI statistics were mainly based on old figures using an
older model. Now, however, many studies have been completed that show
data depicting a strong ROI from organizations using the CMMI version
1.1. The ???normal??? ROI quoted is usually 5 to 1, that is, for every dollar
invested, five dollars are returned. Some studies show an even greater
increase. However, the point should be made that these figures do not
occur overnight, and only occur when CMMI-based process improvement
is implemented correctly. Actual results of studies concerning the
benefits of CMMI usage (including ROI as well as other factors) in organizations
can be found on the SEI Web site www.sei.cmu.edu.
Issue: CMMI emphasizes Systems Engineering over Software Engineering.
152 n Interpreting the CMMI
Point: Historically, the biggest seller of all the models was the CMM for
Software.
