Results are based on how the organization satis-
fies the goals for each process area. One or more projects, process areas, and maturity
or capability levels are investigated, depending on the purpose of the SCAMPI.
So, the steps in the SCAMPI are basically:
Gather and review documentation
Conduct interviews
Discover and document strengths and deficiencies
Present findings
And the primary components of a SCAMPI are:
Planning and preparing for the appraisal
Collecting and consolidating data, both before and during the appraisal
Making judgments
Determining ratings
Reporting results
There are three classes of appraisals recognized by the SEI when using the
CMMI: A, B, and C. Each class is distinguished by its degree of rigor. SCAMPI
and other appraisals are discussed in greater detail in Chapter 20 and Chapter 21.
A comparison of other assessment methods can be found in Appendix A.
