"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Yes, it??™s a lot of work, and yes, it is hard.
Most templates for defining processes include the following entities:
Activity Entry Criteria
Activity Exit Criteria
n n
Defining Processes, Procedures, Policies, and Charters n 195
Activity Input
Activity Output
Activity Performed By
Task Description
Verification Description
What Activity Comes Next
This is called the ETVX model, and was created by IBM and used by the SEI (Software
Engineering Institute) as part of its process framework. This generic method of
transcribing activities, ETVX, stands for: Entry Criteria, Tasks, Verification, and eXit
Criteria. Since IBM introduced the ETVX model in the 1980s, it has been adopted
by a large number of users. Some users have made minor modifications over the years
including differing representations, differing levels of detail, and differing focus on
verification. Figure 15.1 is an example diagram showing the ETVX process model
showing the flow between four major components.
Some terms used include:
Work Product/Work Outcome??”Any product, service, or result
Task??”The action taken to create or achieve the product, service, or result
Agent??”The person who accomplishes or performs the action to achieve or
create the product, service, or result
Examples of Work Outcomes are the results or products of a process, such as
a Project Plan, a project schedule, allocated requirements, management approval,
management signoff, trained employees.
