"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

These
individual values, or counts, are shown by year in Figures 18.10, 18.11, and 18.12
on what is called an individuals chart.
The center line shows the average of the individual values (the sum of the values
for the individual months divided by 12).
Using the count values for 2002 from Table 18.2, we produce the chart shown
in Figure 18.10. The center line is 17.5. The upper limit is 31.28. The lower limit is
3.72.Using the count values for 2001 from Table 18.3, we produce the chart shown
in Figure 18.11. The center line is 18.17. The upper limit is 29.53. The lower limit
is 6.8.
Using the count values for 2000 from Table 18.4, we produce the chart shown
in Figure 18.12. The center line is 16.17. The upper limit is 23.18. The lower limit
is 9.15.
So far, we have not really gotten the most value from our data. Now, we can
combine the values for all of the charts for all three years into two charts: one for
individual values for all three years and one for the average moving ranges for all
three years, then compare the two.
