"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Some are called assessments. Some are called
evaluations. We use the term appraisal in an attempt to be consistent with the CMMI product
suite. Appendix A provides a comparison of CBA-IPIs to SCEs to SCAMPI.

the only approved Class A appraisal method. This method satisfies the Class
A requirement of the ARC.
Handbook for Conducting Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement
(SCAMPI) B and C Appraisals, Version 1.1??”This handbook contains
the approved methods for Class B and C appraisals. These methods satisfy
the Class B and C requirement of the ARC.
This chapter is based on version 1.2 of both the ARC and the SCAMPI MDD
that were released in August 2006 and version 1.1 of the B and C Handbook
released in December 2005.
We need to emphasize one point. SCAMPI A is currently the only approved
CMMI Class A Appraisal Method. In other words, SCAMPI A satisfies all the
requirements of an ARC Class A Appraisal Method and has been approved by
the SEI. Since the writing of our first version of this book, the SEI has defined
the method for SCAMPI Class B and SCAMPI Class C Appraisals in the technical
report, Handbook for Conducting Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process
Improvement (SCAMPI) B and C Appraisals, Version 1.
