context and operates within a coherent set of business objectives. An organizational
unit is typically part of a larger organization, although in a small
organization, the organizational unit may be the whole organization.

Appraisals Using the CMMI n 279
(Appraisal) Rating??”The value assigned by an Appraisal Team to (1) a CMMI
goal or process area, (2) the capability level or a process area, or (3) the maturity
level of an organizational unit. The rating is determined by enacting the
defined rating process for the appraisal method being employed.
Strength??”Exemplary or noteworthy implementation of a CMMI model
practice.
Weakness??”The ineffective, or lack of, implementation of one or more CMMI
model practices.
Objective Evidence??”Documents or interview results used to indicate implementation
or institutionalization of model practices. Sources can include
instruments (surveys), presentations, documents, and interviews.
Rules of Confidentiality and Non-attribution??”Information gained during
appraisal activities is not disseminated outside of the Appraisal Team when
this information could result in negative consequences or be attributed to any
person, team, group, or project.
