"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Process
Monitoring
Appraisal methods are also used in monitoring processes (e.g., after contract
award, by serving as input for an incentive/award fee decision or a risk
management plan). The appraisal results are used to help the sponsoring
organization tailor its contract or process monitoring e?¬?orts by allowing it to
prioritize e?¬?orts based on the observed strengths and weaknesses of the
supplying organization??™s processes. This usage mode focuses on a long-term
teaming relationship between the sponsoring organization and the
development organization (i.e., buyer and supplier).

Class A Appraisal Methods must satisfy all ARC requirements. A Class A
Appraisal Method is the only method that can provide a rating. It requires two
sources of data: interviews and documents. An interview is a formal meeting
between one or more members of the organization and the Appraisal Team or
mini-team. During this interview, the interviewee represents the organization in
some capacity, based on the role he performs.
