whether a level rating will be produced. The plan should also capture the nonattribution
and confidentially rules for the appraisal.
The Appraisal Plan document is submitted to the SEI as part of the appraisal
data package at the end of the appraisal. An outline of the information expected
in the Appraisal Plan is shown in Table 21.5. Your Lead Appraiser can provide
an Appraisal Plan document template from the SEI that can be used as a starting
point.
Some of the more important activities in this process include decisions affecting
tailoring of the SCAMPI method and developing a realistic schedule. Do not
get carried away with the idea that you can tailor the SCAMPI. There are strict
rules about what can be tailored and what cannot. Factors that can be tailored
focus on number of members of the Appraisal Team, their experience (e.g., process
improvement, project management, development, etc.), number of organizational
sites visited, which process areas will be appraised, and so forth.
