"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Select and Prepare the Team Process
The activities of this process are to identify the Appraisal Team Leader, select team
members, and prepare the team.
Selecting your Appraisal Team Leader is an important step. Your team leader
must be an SEI-Authorized SCAMPI Lead Appraiser. An additional requirement
for high maturity appraisals, that is, Capability or Maturity Levels 4 and 5, is that
the Lead Appraiser must be an SEI-certified High Maturity Lead Appraiser (see
Chapter 20 for more information). Not only are you looking for a qualified Lead
Appraiser with the right authorizations and certifications, you want someone that
will be respected by the people in your organization and someone that can work
with all levels of the organization from the boardroom to the cubicles.
The Lead Appraiser must receive advanced training from the SEI, report his
results in a standardized fashion, pass a test on the CMMI and the SCAMPI A
method, be observed by the SEI, pay licensing fees, and adhere to SEI-proclaimed
standards. The point of this diatribe is to warn any organizations that are looking
to ???buy a rating??? that this entire process is heavily scrutinized in order to maintain
the quality and integrity of the ratings process.
