It is called the Readiness
Review.
The purpose of the Readiness Review is to determine whether the organization
to be appraised is ready to conduct the appraisal as planned. Without this
review, organizations were sometimes surprised that they were going to ???fail??? their
appraisal because they had selected the wrong projects (not representative of how
their organization really does business), had selected the wrong people for interviews
(the strategic thinkers or the salesmen, not the workers who had actually
implemented the processes), or had produced the wrong documentation (processes
not related to the CMMI, or no processes, procedures, or details on how to conduct
an activity). This step, while not ensuring that the organization will ???pass??? the
SCAMPI A, greatly increases the odds. The Lead Appraiser and Appraisal Team
Members review the documentation and also check to make sure that any logistical

problems have been solved (adequate facilities, the schedule has been approved,
team members have received the required training, no one is planning to give birth
during the appraisal, etc.
