"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

The authors of this book conduct this
review as an addition to the required Appraisal Team training.
The PIIDs are reviewed to determine what data are available, what data are still
needed, and how and where additional data will be obtained. The Appraisal Team
looks for process area coverage gaps (documentation missing either for direct or
indirect artifacts per practice or process area). During this readiness review, the
Appraisal Team does not look for ???goodness??? of the data. The Appraisal Team simply
looks to see if something that might be appropriate and relevant to the CMMI
practice has been included in the right place in the PIID. The more time devoted
to this review, the more closely the Appraisal Team can review the documentation
in depth, the more information can be gained prior to the start of the onsite interviews,
and the better the chance that the organization is ready for the full-blown
appraisal.
Conduct Appraisal Phase
This phase focuses on collecting data to judge the extent to which the model has
been implemented in the organization.
