"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Appraisal Team Members may follow up with subsequent questions that deviate
slightly from their previously scripted questions in order to help the interviewee
understand and interpret the question or to gain more specific information. All
Appraisal Team Members listen and take and tag their notes relative to the CMMI
process areas and practices. Interviewees are not allowed to take notes. Interviews
are used to gain insight into how processes are followed, decisions are made, and
documentation is used. After each interview, or after a series of interviews, the
Appraisal Team Members discuss what they heard and what they have read, and
map these observations back to the CMMI.
Two related topics are consolidation and consensus. Consolidation is the activity
of collecting and summarizing information collected into a manageable set of
useful data. Consensus is a method of decision making that allows team members
to develop a common understanding and agreement that all team members are
willing to support.
Findings and ratings require team consensus.
