"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

This step is
done according the rules shown in Table 21.10. Capability levels are only defined
for process areas.
Process Areas (PAs) must be assigned rating values of Satis?¬?ed, Unsatis?¬?ed, Not Applicable, Out
of Scope, or Not Rated.
A PA is rated Satis?¬?ed if and only if all of its speci?¬?c and generic goals associated with a given
maturity level and below are rated Satis?¬?ed.
If even one of the goals associated with a given maturity level in a PA is rated Unsatis?¬?ed, then the
PA is rated Unsatis?¬?ed for that maturity level and above.
When a PA is determined to be outside of the organizational unit??™s scope of work, the PA is
designated as Not Applicable and is not rated. The identi?¬?cation of a PA as Not Applicable must
occur during the planning of the appraisal.
When an applicable PA is outside the scope of the appraisal reference model used for the appraisal,
the PA is designated as Out of Scope and is not rated.
If even one of the goals in a PA is rated Not Rated and none of the other goals are rated
Unsatis?¬?ed, then the PA is rated Not Rated.
