"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

What does that
mean? What are we verifying? The first thing we verify is that we have PIIDs for each
specific practice for each process area (PA) and for each generic practice for each process
area. We look to see that each PIID is complete (no blank spaces) and contains
documentation that shows how the CMMI practice has been implemented at the
organizational level and in each project being appraised.
So what really is a PIID? A PIID is a form that points to evidence that each
CMMI practice has been implemented in your organization. If you don??™t do the
PIIDs, you will fail the SCAMPI. Period.* PIIDs are inputs to the SCAMPI process,
so if you don??™t have them, you are not ready for the SCAMPI. If you are not
ready, the SCAMPI is canceled. Now, go tell the executive in charge of your organization
that you failed the SCAMPI because you don??™t like the PIIDs. See what
happens next.
The PIIDs were developed to help organize the documentation reported to the
Appraisal Team and to help minimize the time that the team spends on site.
