Those Damn PIIDs! n 323
the process area. For example, an EPG member will probably know the most about
organizational-level process areas (like Organizational Process Focus or Organizational
Training), while the project managers of each project to be appraised probably
know the most about project-level documentation (like the project plan and
specific project metrics).
Make sure you have someone objective review the resulting PIIDs before you
turn them over to the Appraisal Team. We have found that PIIDs are often filled
out incorrectly because the person filling them out is also the person who wrote
the documentation or was heavily invested in implementing the information in the
documents. PIIDs are also completed incorrectly because the person filling them
out doesn??™t understand them, doesn??™t want to understand them, or doesn??™t have the
time to think about what is actually required, so he just puts something in to fill
in the blanks.
Be sure your organization schedules enough time to complete the PIIDs, review
the PIIDs, and correct the PIIDs.
