"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

Solution: Identify the individual document or file within the repository and
specifically reference it. The more specific the reference, the better (see
the next attribute).
PIID Attribute: PIIDs list a page or section in a large document with a specific
reference to page number and section number.
Problem: The Appraisal Team does not have a lot of time to conduct its investigation.
If the team must review a large document, the Appraisal Team
may not know what page or section is relevant. They will not find the
artifact or the correct evidence of implementation, resulting in wasted
time and an unsuccessful appraisal.
Solution: Read the documents when building the PIIDs and capture page or
section numbers.
PIID Attribute: PIIDs are under Version and Configuration Control.
Problem: The Appraisal Team can waste a lot of time by working on out-ofdate
PIIDs or the wrong versions.
Solution: Define a responsible person to maintain version and configuration
control. Do not change the PIIDs after the onsite portion of the appraisal
starts.
