"Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition"

The cost savings in
training were that the student did not have to repeat the two courses (Introduction
to CMM and SCE Training class) again in order to participate in more SCEs. By
taking the courses before performing on the SCE team, the student also received

the benefit of being instructed by several people who may have had different interpretations
of the CMM.
Conduct
Both SCEs and IPIs were conducted by a ???Lead?????”either a Lead Evaluator (SCEs)
or a Lead Assessor (IPIs). This lead must have participated in at least two previous
SCEs (for the evaluator) or two previous IPIs (for the assessor) in order to qualify
for training. (SCEs could not be substituted for IPIs; IPIs could not be substituted
for SCEs). The training was mandatory and was only conducted by the SEI.
The SCE was led by the SEI-certified Lead Evaluator. The SCE usually did
not include members of the organization on the team, depending on the type of
SCE, and depending on whether financial remuneration or contract award was to
be based on the outcome.
