"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

CHAPTER 2
SERVICE-ORIENTED LIFE CYCLE MODEL
The service-oriented life cycle model is a guide to execution. This model is a cookbook for mentoring
service-oriented practitioners to provide framework solutions for service design, architecture,
construction, and operations initiatives. ???Framework solutions??? pertain to the structure and management
aspects of a service??™s evolution. This is the mechanism that employs service-oriented
modeling and nonmodeling disciplines to facilitate a service??™s progression throughout its life
cycle. A life cycle framework also enables proper management of the most precious property of
the service metamorphosis paradigm??”time.
Before one embarks on a life cycle planning initiative, the following questions should be
asked:
??? What is the rudimentary service life cycle structure that can enable efficient service
development and operations?
??? How can a service-oriented life cycle facilitate a service??™s transformation from one state
to another?
??? How can a service life cycle timeframe be managed and controlled?
??? What are the various disciplines that take part in a service life cycle?
??? In what respect do service-oriented modeling discipline activities correlate to their corresponding
nonmodeling disciplines?
??? How can service behavior be controlled to avoid a negative impact on the business?
This chapter introduces the fundamental pillars of the service life cycle framework to help
establish an enterprise service-oriented development and management methodology for projects.
