If service offerings gain popularity and are favored by consumers,
they must be promoted and granted special privileges and extended benefits, such as enhanced
scalability capabilities and larger budgets for their operations. Conversely, demotion of services
is another task that should be carried out during service portfolio analysis activities if service
reusability rates decline. Demoted services can be retired, or the scale of their functionality can
be reduced.
Continuous Integration Discipline. Why are integration activities needed at every moment
during the service life cycle? Should integration disciplines be practiced during service analysis,
design, and architecture? And what should be integrated during the service-oriented business
architecture process? Infrastructure, services, components, and development and production environments
should always be integrated and ready for deployment at any required time during the
service life cycle. Thus, in line with a proactive approach to managing service life cycles, the
preferred strategy should include multiple integration initiatives that can increase deployment
readiness to facilitate business agility. Traditionally, integration activities take place after the
construction phase, at deployment time when systems, middleware components, and third-party
products are incorporated. Service-oriented projects, however, require multiple integration initiatives.
