48 Ch. 2 Service-Oriented Life Cycle Model
SUMMARY
The service-oriented life cycle is the embodiment of metamorphosis, in which a service undergoes
a transformation process that yields four service states: conceptual service, analysis service, design
service, and solution service.
A service-oriented life cycle is driven by six major principles: service metamorphosis,
strategy, governance, structure, funding, and return on investment.
A service-oriented life cycle model is composed of four major life cycle structure elements:
timeline, events, seasons, and disciplines.

CHAPTER 3
SERVICE-ORIENTED LIFE CYCLE PERSPECTIVES
Unlike traditional systems development life cycles, the service-oriented life cycle methodology
facilitates service development and operations processes by providing standards and best practices
that conform to today??™s emerging service-oriented architecture (SOA) industry technologies.
Service life cycle planning is the art of laying out an organizational strategy that drives service
development and production environments. This should be an enterprise plan for service-oriented
project management and monitoring.
