"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

Thus, the latest
developments introduced the following major guiding principles, which are widely accepted
by today??™s computing community and provided the impetus for the proposed service-oriented
conceptualization model. These are as follows:
??? Concept discovery. Concepts are discoverable entities. They should be identified by
employing proper methodologies and applying technological approaches.
??? Decision making. The concept discovery process should employ decision-making activities
that are driven by predefined guiding rules.
??? Searching mechanisms. Searching activities simply assist with derivation of concepts,
and they should be employed during the discovery process.
??? Treatment of concepts. Concepts should be treated like any other concrete objects.
What are the major goals and milestones of the service conceptualization process? What
should its contributions be to the management of the service life cycle? The aim should be to
accomplish three major objectives by implementing the offered conceptualization practices: First,
understand and separate business and technology concerns. Second, discover and institute conceptual
services that can propose proper solutions. Third, establish taxonomies and a conceptual
services portfolio for the organization.
Before identifying how these principles can be leveraged to derive organizational concepts
and entity taxonomies, an introduction to conceptual services and to the service conceptualization
process is helpful.
