"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

What are the main goals of the service classification and
categorization initiative? How can these service conceptualization milestones be attained? The
two major objectives that an organization should attain are constitution of conceptual services
and the formation of a universal abstractions taxonomy for the enterprise.
Constitution of Conceptual Services. This process should yield conceptual services that cover
the scope of business requirements and address corresponding concerns. Remember, in the attribution
analysis phase, the business requirements were decomposed and the attributes of conceptual
services were extracted. At this stage, however, these concepts require further refinement that
would yield formalized organizational concepts. These abstractions would not only facilitate a
better alignment between business and IT institutions, but also establish conceptual services that
would provide direction for future service-oriented projects.
Foundation of Enterprise Taxonomy. The second major objective of the service identification
and categorization process is to establish an organizational conceptual glossary that can be used
repeatedly in future service-oriented development projects. These enterprise concepts enable a
higher level of asset reusability and can also promote comprehensive consolidation of assets.
Promoting asset reusability should be accomplished by agreeing on mutual organizational concepts
that can be shared by all lines of business.
