At this early stage, though, consumption rates and service offering capabilities should be planned
for future operating activities in production.
How is it possible to plan consumption and capacity rates of conceptual services while
they are still in their inception phase? Consumption planning is related to service capabilities and
the capacity to provide solutions to organizational problems. In fact, this is typically connected
to how granular these services are. Thus, placing conceptual services on higher levels of the
association hierarchy tree indicates that they should be allocated more resources and accessibility
once deployed in production. Lower level nodes are characteristically populated with finer-grained
services that may not require elaborated scalability accommodations because of their expected
lower consumption rates.
Service Grouping. Service grouping means identifying related conceptual services based on
their business affiliation and their common attributes. This grouping mechanism, however, enables
service associations by observing their parent and offspring relationships. This process forms a
hierarchy of entities that contextually relate to each other. The parent conceptual service groups
all of its subordinate conceptual services under one mutual idea, as well as its children, if they
are themselves parents of offspring. For example, Exhibit 5.9 illustrates a hierarchy of associations
and conceptual services grouping based on their business context and internal relationships.
