"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

This binding aspect is the services??™ similar business
attributes or even technological commonality. The bundled conceptual services can represent a
product, an organization??™s operating environment, line of business, or even a business partner.
Exhibit 5.16 depicts a mutual funds institution standard cluster that provides discrete business
operations and is made up of four bond fund conceptual services that collaboratively contribute
to the mutual fund trading operations: tax advantage, taxable, high-yield, and high-quality. This
example illustrates a rudimentary cluster formation made up of specialized conceptual services
gathered together to solve complex problems.
Conceptual Service Partitioned Cluster. A partitioned cluster is akin to a standard cluster. However,
this structure is subdivided into multiple conceptual service-related groups, each of which is
designed to provide specialized business processes and to support smaller-scale operations. Why
is the partitioned cluster sliced into smaller units rather than retaining its structure intact? A partitioned
cluster offers a convenient method for viewing the organization??™s offerings and products
as a whole, and it also enables examination of the underlying aggregated cluster segments.
Remember, partitioned clusters provide a distinctive method for viewing an organization??™s
products and services. The practitioner is asked to look at the whole picture and identify the
enterprise??™s business strategy and direction as well as to logically subdivide this large amount
of information into smaller identities.
