EXHIBIT 6.2 SERVICE-ORIENTED ANALYSIS TYPING MODEL
What are the various service analysis source categories? Why are these sources so vital
to the service analysis process? The sources that need to be identified are, in essence, the origins
of the various organizational assets that are being considered for addressing the problem domain.
There are three sources that can be used to classify enterprise entities: abstraction, legacy, and
portfolio. Labeling a software entity as an abstraction means that it is merely an idea that may
develop into a tangible solution. Conversely, legacy sources are existing service-oriented software
assets that currently operate in production environments. The portfolio category is a different type
of source. This is an itemized list, akin to index cards, that presents an inventory of organizational
assets, enabling a better search for candidate services and applications.
The source information can also reveal how ready the services are to participate in the
solution activities being proposed.
