"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

4 LEGACY TYPES
Legacy services are road-tested and proven solution entities that can continue to contribute
to future service-oriented architecture (SOA) initiatives that were not originally foreseen
or planned. For example, if an investment banking organization has already implemented a credit
verification service for the small-business division, why can this asset also not be utilized by the
individual loan department?
Portfolio Type. Other analysis source references may be found in the organizational asset portfolio.
Portfolios are simply repositories utilized for storing descriptions and profile information about
enterprise systems, services, concepts, consumer applications, and other legacy assets. Portfolios
should also include facts about enterprise software entities??™ current life cycle stages, ownership,
sponsorship, and their operating capacities and capabilities. In fact, asset portfolios do not consist
of the original tangible solution services or applications. They are merely management tools that
facilitate inventory analysis activities and assist with budgeting and planning.
Then why are asset portfolios valuable sources for the analysis service typing process? An
ideal enterprise asset management operation should employ entity portfolios that not only describe
legacy services or systems but provide information about assets that are treated in various life
cycle stages, such as conceptualization, analysis, design, and architecture.
