"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

Some of these assets
are still in their inception phase, and the only reference to their existence may be found in the
organization??™s asset portfolio. For example, the service conceptualization method, which is one
of the first steps in the service life cycle, advocates recording organizational abstractions in a
conceptual portfolio for the benefit of future discovery and analysis activities. Therefore, service
abstractions that are characterized as portfolio types should also be viable for the current analysis
process.
TYPING SERVICE STRUCTURE. Service structures are vital to the analysis and typing process. In
fact, without prior knowledge of entities??™ internal formations, it would be impossible to understand
their granularity levels and identify their reusability potential. These structures should be founded
as early as possible and allowed to continuously evolve throughout their life cycle. Therefore, the
service conceptualization process??”among the first activities to pursue??”advocates categorizing,
aggregating or partitioning enterprise abstractions to initially discover how these ideas can better
provide effective solutions. Still, in the analysis phase, it is necessary to further refine their
internal compositions and prepare them for future design and architectural activities.
120 Ch. 6 Service-Oriented Typing and Profiling Model
The typing process then should clearly characterize the internal structure of services and
the relationship of their aggregated components so that business and technological challenges can
better be resolved.
