"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

This conceptual motivation obviously offers a fundamental strategy for aggregating services. But
the discovery and analysis phase focuses on the mutual goal of a service group. A cluster structure
accommodates larger coverage of a problem and also can offer processes that can be employed by
larger management entities. These can be lines of business, specialized departments, and divisions.
Unlike a composite service structure, a cluster??™s internal services continue to maintain
their conceptual identity, which can be further modified without major hardships. ???Conceptual
identity??? means that a cluster is established to present a business idea, a line of business, a software
product, or a business operation. Thus, a cluster??™s internal architecture maintains loosely coupled
service associations that can easily be altered when new business or technological requirements
are issued.
This business agility is one of the most compelling benefits of a cluster formation. But
during the service analysis phase clusters also are employed to identify reusability and asset
consolidation opportunities. Cluster structures are not confined to organizations??™ locations or
physical geographic regions. A cluster can span multiple business domains, business partners,
and even facilitate various organizations??™ operations. These analysis and architecture aspects are
further discussed in Chapter 7.
