"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

Solution proposition: We should invest in a powerful account lookup utility that is capable of searching
across multiple client banking and investment accounts.
Exhibit 7.16 illustrates an intersection analysis process suggested by this case. The fixedincome
account trading service, the equity trading equity trading service, and the individual
account service yield a common lookup account service. Note that the resulting solution is typed
as an abstraction because at the present time it merely constitutes an organizational idea that will
materialize if the proposition will be accepted.
INTERSECTION ANALYSIS BEST PRACTICES. Obviously, overusing the intersection capability
can increase asset dependency and thus reduce the reusability of services. Overexploiting this
process can also negatively impact service monitoring, security, and integration efforts. Exhibit
7.17 depicts the major analysis benefits gained and best practices of the intersection process.
SUBTRACTION ANALYSIS
Subtraction9 analysis facilitates reducing the scope of composite and atomic services. This process
pertains to the elimination of unnecessary services functionality, a decrease in business and
technology processes, or abstraction downsizing. Either of these actions affects internal service
structures and influences their constituents. This process, however, is different from the decomposition
analysis. Here, the removed entities may be eradicated and may be never used again.
