"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

These icons illustrate activities that
have occurred in the past, describing the process by which services transformed to tackle the
problem domain. For example, ???aggregated??? denotes the current state of a service that has been
shaped by an aggregation analysis operation. Another example, the ???unified??? symbol, identifies
a condition by which two services merged their operations and relinquished their individual
characteristics. Therefore, the proposed notation elaborates on analysis activities that took place
and describes the current state of the services and their contribution to the overall solution.
Exhibit 8.2 illustrates the eight activity pictograms that represent the service analysis process.
Each symbol is also described in the list that follows.
??? Aggregated. This symbol describes a condition by which services are contained in larger
composite services or clusters. For example, a payroll service can be aggregated into a
broader accounting service.

??? Subtracted. This action has facilitated the elimination of contained services from larger
entities, while the remaining portion continues to function and provide business or technology
value. The removed service, however, may be subject to discontinuation.
