"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

These policies depict the approach
by which the process is communicated that derives current analysis propositions and facilitates
proper utilization of the various notation symbols.
??? Decomposition and subtraction analysis operations should not be performed on atomic
services. In rare cases, however, where an atomic service is oversized, decoupling of its
internal processes can facilitate the establishment of smaller services.
??? Only atomic services can be unified. Thus, the unification operation should not be applied
to composite services or service clusters. If requirements commend merging composite
entities, unify their encompassed atomic entities first.
??? The transformed icon should be utilized to illustrate a service??™s transition from composite
to atomic structure if all of its internal services have been removed during the
decomposition and subtraction analysis.
??? The transformed symbol should also be utilized to depict the transition of a service from
an atomic to a composite state, if it aggregated at least one internal entity??”either an
atomic or a composite service.
??? Intersection analysis operations should involve only service clusters. It is not advisable,
however, to intersect a composite service because its internal hierarchical structure may
be too complex. In addition, an atomic service may be too granular for this operation.
??? Subtraction analysis should be chiefly exercised for composite service and service clusters.
