"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

??? Substitution. Typically replace some of a service??™s internal processes by removing aggregated
component services. This can be achieved by utilizing subtraction or decomposition
operations and then employing the aggregation analysis function for making substitutions
for the removed components.
??? Reduction. Reduction pertains to the elimination or removal of a redundant service functionality
or the alignment of service granularity. Subtraction and decomposition operations
are employed to decrease a service??™s size and limit its functionality.
??? Elimination. Service functionality is usually eliminated because of lack of relevance
to business or technology organizations. The subtraction analysis operation is used to
eliminate unnecessary services or processes.
??? Augmentation. Augmentation is about compensating for deficiencies in service functionality
when current business or technological processes are inadequate to provide a
proper solution. To efficiently supplement service offerings, employ the aggregation or
unification analysis operations.
??? Exchange. Exchange of service processes is typically required when it is required to
swap business or technological functionalities between services to perfect their operations.
The decomposition analysis operation is employed for removing a process and
then the aggregation activity is used to replace it on both of the exchanging
services.
