CHAPTER 10
BUSINESS ARCHITECTURE STRUCTURAL
PERSPECTIVES
As you may remember, in Chapter 9 we discussed business architecture contextual perspectives
that services can be integrated with. There we elaborated on contextual integration mechanisms,
which provide integration opportunities with an organization??™s business model and strategies.
The business architecture structural perspectives, however, introduces here another method of
service-oriented integration. It is chiefly concerned with service alignment with the structural
and tangible elements of a business. These concrete business formations are in essence business
architecture entities that can facilitate the service integration process. We are also commissioned
to address different set of questions: can lines of business, business organizations, business interests,
sources of revenue, or business processes have distinct structures that the organization??™s
service-oriented software assets can be aligned with? Can business properties be viewed as design
formations that adhere to some architectural practices? These questions refer to the very fundamental
aspects of the service-oriented business integration. Here we are integrating our software
entities with business domains.
What are these concrete business architecture components that services can be aligned
with? Which types of structures can a business offer to enable a better service alignment process?
Business domains are enabling structures that can be treated as business architectural entities
and can serve as units of analysis for the integration process.
