This diagram can also explain how services are
mapped to business functionalities and the roles they play in promoting a business. To provide
effective diagrams, study the various integration asset and operation notations along with the rules
that drive this modeling process. These aspects are explained in the sections that follow.
SERVICE-ORIENTED BUSINESS INTEGRATION NOTATION. The service-oriented business integration
diagram should use a formal set of symbols that offers business integration language
capabilities. These icons both describe the key business assets that participate in the integration
process and represent a number of operations that can be used to describe the service-oriented
business integration process.
INTEGRATION ASSETS NOTATION. The service-oriented integration asset notations that are
illustrated in Exhibit 11.2 represent two distinct integration entities: business architecture integration
elements and service-oriented software assets.
??? The business architecture integration elements that should be used in the modeling diagram
are business tier, business domain, and contextual perspective. These entities are
presented in detail in Chapter 10.
??? For the service-oriented business integration modeling effort, service-oriented analysis
services are also used. These are atomic and composite services and service clusters.
Remember, these three major service formations, which participate in the business alignment
initiative, were devised in the service discovery and analysis phase discussed in
Part Three.
