"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

LOGICAL AFFILIATION. As discussed earlier, logical reasoning can also form new service
relationship opportunities. There are two major logical considerations that can shape service
relationships: service design tactical decisions and service design strategy.
A Formal Service Logical Relationship Notation 235
First, the tactical decisions pertain to message workflow and delivery aspect of transactions.
This includes information process flow that refers to the routes and the synchronization
methods by which data is dispatched and shared among participating consumers and services.
The message process flow is also related to message distribution mechanisms across networks,
complying with network architecture and network security, such as firewalls and proxies. Moreover,
working with service-oriented intermediaries can also influence service relationship because
of mediation requirements and interception mechanisms imposed by technological reasons. (This
topic is discussed later in detail in the Intermediary Relationships section.)
Second, the strategic aspect of service design refers to the overall relationships between
all participating partners in a solution. This is a holistic view of logical service composition that is
described in detail in Chapter 13. Their practitioners are commissioned not only to carve a design
strategy, but also required to package solutions based upon design delivery patterns.
