DELIVERABLES
The service-oriented design composition diagram is the artifact that communicates the direction
employed to solve an organizational problem; it is also the packaged service solution that will be
ferried to the architecture and construction teams for further implementation. The design composition
that is devised should employ the proper design styles to foster asset reuse, address
interoperability issues, encourage consolidation of redundant functionality, and facilitate reevaluation
of service granularity levels.
To achieve effective results, the delivered design composition diagram should heavily rely
on the analysis proposition diagram which was devised in the service-oriented discovery and
analysis phase. In addition, utilize the service-oriented business integration modeling diagram to
align services with their corresponding business architecture contextual and structural perspectives.
282 Ch. 13 Service-Oriented Logical Design Composition
SUMMARY
Service associations, message exchange routes, and service pattern formations are the major
contributors to a logical design composition structure.
The major service-oriented design composition building blocks are atomic services, composite
services, and service clusters.
The service-oriented design composition styles are circular, hierarchical, network, and star.
Each of these patterns also employs a corresponding beam that supports the design composition
formation.
