can be accomplished by one or more sessions, each of which executes associated transactions
during a given time. Sessions can also be launched in succession or run in parallel.
Exhibit 14.3 illustrates a session frame that contains three transactions. Note the thick
solid session frame that encompasses the three transactions.
TRANSACTION SECTION. The transaction section depicts a more granular set of activities. It
is the central unit of the service-oriented transaction diagram in which related activities execute
business or technology functionality. More specifically, a transaction can be composed of one
or more collections of activities, each of which depicts coordinated and synchronized message
exchange interactions between consumers and services. Therefore, the transaction section offers
a framework for gathering activities in terms of their common business and technology affiliation
and for managing service communication in a more detailed manner.
