"Service-Oriented Modeling (SOA): Service Analysis, Design, and Architecture"

296 Ch. 14 Service-Oriented Transaction Model
The following sections show examples of service transaction diagrams that are based
on service relationships and service design compositions. Thus, two major transaction activity
modeling approaches are now presented:
??? Service relationships shape transaction activities
??? Service composition styles shape transaction activities
SERVICE RELATIONSHIP SHAPE TRANSACTION ACTIVITIES. Transaction activities rely heavily
on the service associations identified when conducting design relationship analysis (discussed in
Chapter 12). This study typically reveals both the required service collaboration and the message
exchange paths that are used to deliver information. These discovered rudimentary associations
can assist in further refining service correlation and in better managing service transactions. As you
may remember, these relationship formations include the one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one,
and many-to-many message exchange models.
The following sections explore the service relationship??™s effect on transaction activity
planning. Remember, devising a successful service collaboration scheme, coordinating execution
of activities, and managing transactions, must all be accomplished by analyzing individual service
affiliations.
One-to-One. Recall that a one-to-one relationship condition occurs when two parties??”
consumers and services, or services and their peers??”exchange messages.
